Change in the Weather

I picked up a pen

And i wrote you a song

About the number of times

I’ve been wrong

When you said please

Please be gone

I couldn't help thinking

About being led on

A younger man wouldn’t have said it

It’s an older man’s refrain

It’s late but it’s not too late

For some kind of love in vain

I’d tell you my feelings

If I knew what they are

But a change in the weather

Untuned my guitar

There was a time

Working hand in hand

That you couldn’t tell me

You were breaking up the band

I see your pain

Though I can’t understand

I know what happened

Wasn’t in your plan

It seemed

sentimental and blue

But I knew in time

I’d probably need a favor from you

Here I go

Walking on a cloud

One thing I know

There is no lingering doubt

A younger man couldn’t have said it

It’s an older man’s refrain

It’s late but it’s not too late

it wasn’t love in vain

Maybe I’m too happy

To sing a sad sad song

You know I’ve loved you

For so so long

Late last night

I made up a song

About the number of times

I’ve been wrong

I’ll tell you my feelings

When I know what they are

But this change in the weather

Suits us well so far

Play It As It Lies

I don’t think I deserve this but then again I do

I can’t worry about that now I got another thing to prove

I thought about it many times before I realized

You really got no option ‘cept to play it as it lies

The more times that I practiced the luckier I got

Sometimes you make your luck Sometimes not

All I know is what I tell you after many many tries

Time to step up and get counted You gotta play it as it lies

She explained it like she knew it

Like she just found out it’s true

The face of a motivation A chance for something new

I know a guy who kicked it  Made it kiss the sky

He may have got my money

But he knows he played a lie

I took a right turn off the highway and it got me here

Sitting in trouble No time for fear

Thought I would know how by now

Time could have made me wise

There’s only one thing for certain You gotta play it as it lies

Once I thought I made it Set up so perfectly

I finally took the easy way  It’s just so plain to see

That when you get your hopes up It only worsens the demise

There’s only one thing for certain ….

I took a left turn off the highway and it got me here

Sitting in trouble No time for fear

Thought I would know how by now

Time could have made me wise

There’s only one thing for certain You gotta play it as it lies

Didn't anybody tell you You gotta play it as it lies

Brighter Colored Birds

I see my age in other people’s faces

Sometimes birds and people sing the way they are

I wonder what it’s like in the rainy season

Or keeping god in a jar

I remember things I forgot that I’d forgotten

Try to put them into words

Thinking that I’m headed in the right direction

While I ponder my notions ‘bout the brighter colored birds

What’s it like to give it all away so freely

To graciously invite a gather round

To answer questions without question (background on the ooohs)

And grace us with a funky sound

I remember things I forgot that I’d forgotten

Try to put em into words

Thinking that I’m headed in the right direction

While I ponder my notions ‘bout the brighter colored birds

Took some advice and broke my heart until it opened

Letting everybody see

Presence is the greatest the present (background on the ooohs)

Listening to the birds and people sing

I remember things I forgot that I’d forgotten

Put em into words

Believing that I’m headed in the right direction

While I ponder my notions ‘bout the brighter colored birds

I ponder my notions ‘bout the brighter colored birds

I sit and ponder my notions ‘bout the brighter colored birds

Wasted Time

Time passes  Hour glasses

Sift their sands away

Sparks streak Speakers speak

Sounds made other days

Livings eke Emotions leak

Passions hid inside

Spinning web Feelings ebb

With the turning of the tide

I spent a lot of my time today

Wishing it were yesterday

Tables turn Lovers yearn

For star crossed memories

Minds game Losers blame

Their loss on referees

Records break Mouths gape

At all the hippest styles

Baby sleeps Mother weeps

For the future of her child

Time passes  Hour glasses

Sift their sands away

Sparks streak Speakers speak

Sounds made other days
